Understanding RACI Matrices
A RACI chart (or matrix) is a tool used in project management to define and document roles and responsibilities. It stands for:
- R - Responsible: The person who actually does the work to complete the task. (There should be at least one R per task).
- A - Accountable: The person ultimately answerable for the correct completion of the deliverable or task. (There must be exactly ONE A per task).
- C - Consulted: Those whose opinions are sought, typically subject matter experts. They are involved prior to a final decision.
- I - Informed: Those who are kept up-to-date on progress, often only on completion of the task. They require one-way communication.
